Seiko Prospex Sumo Night Diver – A Bold Tribute to the Midnight Ocean
Most black dive watches may simply swap silver steel for black coating and call it a day. The Prospex SBDC095 SPB125 does something more interesting.
Built upon the famously broad-shouldered Sumo platform, the Black Series edition changes the entire character of the watch. What is normally one of Seiko's friendliest and most approachable professional divers suddenly feels far more serious. The familiar curves remain, but the visual weight shifts. Edges appear sharper. The dial feels deeper. Even before the lights go out, the Night Diver concept is already doing its job.
Collectors often remember the SPB125 for its black hard-coated case, but the detail that gives the watch its identity is arguably the vintage-coloured Lumibrite.
