In August 2021, Grand Seiko announced a set of three new 9R Spring Drive timepieces for the Chinese market. These three Chinese Limited Spring Drive SBGA series feature the iconic snowflake dial; similar to the SBGA211 and SBGA407, all three models are considered the Grand Seiko Heritage collection.
Mt. Fuji - the highest mountain in Japan and the second-largest volcano in Asia, has always been an epic symbol of Japan. Legend has it that Mt. Fuji was created in just one day. Literally translated as “wealthy person with status”, the spirit of the word "Fuji" is skillfully manifested in the watch design of this new limited edition set, whereby truly implementing the Mt. Fuji spirit into a Grand Seiko collection. As the three new pieces continue to inherit the greatest of the Grand Seiko Heritage collection, proudly present to the world magnificent Japanese craftsmanship.
The Spring Drive 9R65 Caliber is designed, adjusted, and assembled by hand, by acclaimed craftsmen and women at the Grand Seiko Shinshu Watch Studio in Japan. Spring Drive, recognized as one of the great innovations in modern watchmaking, is a spring-driven movement with a state-of-the-art electromagnetic regulator that functions without an external power source. Its sole power source is a mainspring, which drives a series of gears like a traditional mechanical watch and delivers a precision of one second a day, a rate unprecedented for a watch powered by a mainspring. The Spring Drive movement further celebrates the passage of time as a poetic journey with every revolution of the second's hand around the dial.
