Seiko Watch Corp. has recently released two new GMT models, the "SARY229" and "SARY231", as part of their popular PRESAGE Style60's collection, which is known for its vintage charm. These timepieces feature Seiko's renowned caliber 4R34 automatic movement, which is a member of the 4R family and is equipped with a GMT complication, allowing the wearer to track two time zones simultaneously using the 24-hour hand.
The Seiko caliber 4R34 GMT movement has already gained a strong following thanks to its reliability and affordability. It is used in Seiko's SKX Sports Style GMT lineup, which was launched in June 2022 and is now available worldwide from July 2022. Now, the PRESAGE Style60's collection is receiving a similar upgrade with the release of these GMT models.
The "Journey on the road" theme of these models is inspired by touring with vintage cars, and the design details reflect this inspiration. The delicate steering wheel and levers, as well as the gauges of vintage cars, have been incorporated into the design of the watch face, creating a nostalgic attachment to these vehicles. The GMT dial layout is based on the "Crown Chronograph", which is the base model of Style60's, ensuring consistency with the series' overall feel.
The coloring of these watches is inspired by the metallic body colors that were popular in the 1960s, which were used on touring cars around the world. The newly developed coarse vertical streak finish on the dial adds a unique metallic and machine-like feel that is characteristic of vintage cars.
